Can the shop refuse an impossible order?
A successful add-to-cart test covers the happy path; deliberately exceeding the available stock checks whether the store can protect the business too.
A development storefront looked ready enough: products loaded, options worked, and an available item reached the cart. That proved the pleasant path. The more revealing test was trying to add the same limited item again.
The tiny experiment
Question: Would the storefront respect the real stock limit?
Result: The first unit was accepted and the unavailable second unit was refused.
What this did not prove: payment, fulfilment, and the rest of checkout still needed their own tests. One successful refusal is useful evidence, not a graduation ceremony.
